NILPETER/MARK ANDY WEB PRINTER IN SAN JOSE

Same old story: Controls put in in 1983 are getting old refusing to function properly. The people that installed these controls have long since retired. There is no factory support either from the Machine maker, nor from the controls maker. Old software would need to be located and a long learning curve (dollars and time) would be experienced to get the system working. Its much more efficient in terms of labor,, risk and future problems to retrofit these systems in a short amount of time. This is better done while the machine is working properly rather than waiting for a failure to occur. ALS proposed using Controllogix and Powerflex Drives communicating on Ethernet as a state of the art approach to carry the Senate forward, literally, into the next 50 years of operation. The real challenge was in minimizing downtime, and eliminating startup issues. ALS accomplished this via the use of accurate program conversions and high familiarity with the intricate details of the Programs controlling the subway.
